Virtual Baseball Academy
Mission
The goal of Complete Game Virtual Baseball Academy is to provide an alternative program to traditional baseball academies (off-season developmental programming) that can be tailored to the needs of specific families and players who for various reasons choose not to enrole in a traditional academy program. This program strives to deliver the following for student-athletes and their families looking for an option to the traditional baseball academy program:
- Remove the financial burden to communicate and interact with professional instruction and guidance.
- Remove the geographical restrictions especially for players living in rural and outlying communities.
- Provide student-athletes with enhanced baseball development.
- Provide student-athletes with resources in the areas of athletic nutrition and strength & conditioning.
- Provide student-athletes and their families with assistance and placement services in pursuing college baseball opportunities.
- Provide student-athletes with life skills and lessons through sport to increase overall success in all future life endeavors.
In Alberta, the typical traditional academy programs range in annual costs from $2,500 to over $10,000. In addition, families from outside of the area are then expected to pay housing fees ranging from $3,500-5,000 per school year as the student-athletes are required to live within the academy's community and often must attend a specific school that is run by or partners with the academy program. Obviously this structure is not appropriate or possible for many families and Complete Game Virtual Baseball Academy provides a cost effective and convenient structure for developmental baseball programming.

Purpose
Growing up in a small town, well in the interior of British Columbia, my brother and I were left to travel great distances regularly for solid baseball instruction and competitive opportunities with the hope of being noticed by US or Canadian college recruiters. Fortunately, we had great support from our family in pursuing our goals of playing at the collegiate level, but without any direction, we struggled to find our way through the self-promotion, finding a showcase program, gaining the athletic ability necessary to be recognized and competitive. Nearly overlooked was determining how to connect with colleges, when to schedule things such as the SAT exam and what needed to be done in order to be eligible for US or Canadian college and baseball program entry.
With all of this in mind, as well as through personal coaching experience within a traditional academy program and in receiving feedback during private instruction sessions, Complete Game Virtual Baseball Academy was developed. For all of the student-athletes and their families wishing to pursue elite level baseball opportunities, but not knowing where to start or who to ask, this program strives to provide that information in a convenient online (virtual) platform combined with structured in-person, one-on-one instructional sessions. Student-athlete and family conferences take place following one-on-one sessions to discuss progress, assess progress toward goals and grade overall development of athleticism, sport-specific skill and mental make-up.
Families with student-athletes in grades 11 and 12 may also opt for additional college baseball advisory (placement and guidance services) in order to simplify the recruiting/placement process, ensure that the student-athlete is matched with an appropriate college educational and baseball program, and to provide detailed information on the necessary steps and checklist to ensure that the student-athlete is ready for the collegiate level. Overall, there is a developmental program option available for each serious student-athlete with aspirations to reach their personal goals in baseball.
Overview
Complete Game Virtual Academy provides a structured platform and program for student-athletes to work toward their goals through individual developmental programs, instruction and feedback. The program also provides access to resources for additional improvements, showcasing of abilities to college recruiters and professional scouts and preparatory enhancement for college and life success through a program combining life skills and lessons with baseball along with goal-setting and periodic follow-ups to ensure that student-athletes are set up for more than just success in sport.
Although high school aged student-athletes will likely receive the most immediate benefit of working within this type of program, junior high aged student-athletes will also receive great benefit from being introduced early to the commitment and dedication required to pursue a passion to its fullest while learning valuable lessons through the pursuit of skill mastery that will serve well into life beyond sports. One-on-one instructional sessions will be established for each student-athlete and the participant and family will gain access to a variety of resources to assist in athletic development, life skill acquisition and college placement opportunities.
Complete Game Virtual Baseball Academy provides a well-rounded approach to baseball instruction and guidance, hence the name Complete Game, and will work with each student-athlete and their family to provide these services in a location convenient to them - assistance from the family will be necessary to determine a training site, especially in locations outside of Edmonton, and additional fees may be necessary for facility rentals. Therefore, the instructional program is mobile (in person at a location convenient to the student-athlete) while the supporting information and guidance is virtual (online).
The full virtual academy program is for the serious student-athlete and is geared toward the ages of 12-19 years old. Instructional accommodations will be made based on skill and experience levels, but the program is for student-athletes interested in pursuing college baseball opportunites as well as wanting to be selected to or become impact players with their local rep teams. Other instructional options are available for student-athletes with less experience or without the ability to commit to the structured virtual academy program (example: private instruction sessions).
